When fishing, you are legally required to produce your fishing licence and government issued photo ID upon request of an officer. Your basic angling licence must be legible and can be provided in the following formats:
• An unmodified paper copy printed on 8.5 x 11 paper;
• An unmodified electronic copy on your digital device (i.e. a photo on your phone, tablet, computer, etc.) when a record for any of the conservation surcharge species is not required. Conservation surcharge retention records are required as listed below:
– Steelhead from the non-tidal waters of the Province;
– An adult chinook salmon from the non-tidal waters of the Province;
– Rainbow trout that measures more than 50 cm from the tip of the nose to the fork of the tail from Kootenay Lake east of a line between fishing boundary signs on opposite shores at Balfour Point and Proctor Lighthouse;
– A rainbow trout that measures more than 50 cm from the tip of the nose to the fork in the tail from Shuswap Lake;
– A char that measures more than 60 cm from the tip of the nose to the fork in the tail from Shuswap Lake.
To complete the conservation surcharge retention record, an unmodified, legible physical copy of the licence can be printed on standard size 8.5 x 11 paper. Please review the conservation surcharges in the Freshwater Fishing Regulation Synopsis.
